Philanthropist and executive leader, Tony Petrello has devoted his life to financially support the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute (NRI). He became a devoted supporter after his daughter Carena was diagnosed with PVL (periventricular leukomalacia) after her birth.
Tony and his wife Cynthia Petrello have donated millions of dollars to Texas Children’s Hospital in hope of finding effective treatments. Texas Children’s Hospital is the only medical institution in the United States to focus on research studying the brain of children. The most recent charitable giving the Petrello family pledged was to NRI, a research institute affiliated with Texas Children’s.

Tony Petrello and the family pledged $7 million to the Jan and Dan Duncan NRI, donating $5 million in cash at the time. He and Cynthia relied on the medical services of Texas Children’s Hospital to care for Carena who also has developmental problems. The Neurological Research Institute opened in 2010, making it the seventh year studying pathogenesis of neurological disease in children and developing treatments. In 2007, the Petrello and Duncan families donated $50 million, collectively, to work on the formation and opening of the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute.
Tony Petrello presently is a member of the Board of Trustees at Texas Children’s Hospital, and serves as Director. NRI is the first research center to open in the U.S. devoted to discovering treatments for childhood neurological diseases. Mr. Petrello serves as Chief Executive Officer and President of Nabors Industries Ltd, an American oil and gas fleet rigs and drilling company. He also serves as Chairman on the Board of Directors and oversees the company’s overall operations. His expertise in the oil and gas industry includes operational functions, executive leadership, and strategic planning.
