Betsy DeVos’s Lifelong Achievements And Events Leading To Her Nomination

Betsy DeVos, formerly known as Betsy Prince is one of the most well-known defenders or school-of-choice. Upon the election of Donald Trump to the presidency in 2016, it was announced that she would become the next the US Secretary of Education. The confirmation hearing was a long one that had a tough partisan battles embroiled in it. But after Vice President Mike Pence’s vote broke the deadlock, Betsy became confirmed as head of the Department of Education. The work that prompted President Trump to select her for the position goes back to her days as a political activist on the campus of Calvin College.

Betsy DeVos was born in 1958 to the wealthy Prince family in Holland, MI. Her father, Edgar Prince started up Prince Corporation, a former die-cast machine manufacturing company later turned to auto parts supplier. She attended political events at Calvin College where she supported conservative principles and started taking an interest in education reform. She became married to Dick DeVos Jr. and as a parent of four, she understood just how important school-of-choice is to US education. One of the first schools that she and Dick began to support was Potter’s House, which their foundation still funds to this day.

It was through the foundation that she and Dick founded Education Freedom Fund, a scholarship and grant program that matched grants given by Children’s Scholarship Fund for operating costs for small schools. Through this program needy families have been able to save on living expenses and tuition. To bring even more freedom of education initiatives to the table, Betsy and Dick campaigned for private school vouchers and tax credits in the Michigan constitution. It was voted down in the 2000 election, but it only inspired Betsy DeVos to do more for private education. DeVos then began starting charter school organizations and then in 2010 became a founder of the West Michigan Aviation Academy.

Betsy DeVos has been a businesswoman and investor who along with Dick DeVos began investing in clean energy and new technology businesses with The Windquest Group. In 1996 she won election to the Michigan Republican Party chair. After only four years she stepped down because she felt the position was too much following without enough leading, but in 2004 she returned to the position to take on issues that then Democrat Governor Jennifer Granholm was proposing. She and Dick were the donors behind a campaign for right-to-work in 2012 and her nomination for US Secretary of Education was a surprising move from then President-elect Donald Trump whom she had opposed in the primaries. But upon hearing that Trump chose her, she expressed gratitude and expressed her desire to work with the administration. Visit the website U.S. Department of Education to know more.

George Soros Looks For A Deep Reduction In U.S. Military Spending

There are few financial experts who have made such a big impact on the world through their political and philanthropic career than George Soros, the Hungarian born octogenarian who is still leading the way for Democrat donors in the 21st century. Discover the Networks explains George Soros made his first major impact on U.S. politics in 2004 when he pledged more than $27 million to the campaign of Democrat John Kerry after Soros became concerned with the militarization of the U.S. nation as the second Iraq war became a major part of the narrative of the 21st century. Soros himself believes the rising level of military spending in the U.S. should be cut and has used his own open Society Foundations to push forward the opinions of the groups he backs, such as the American Friends Service Committee. George Soros began his life living under the threat of Nazi groups that were expanding the cause of far right extremist groups across much of western and central Europe in the 1930s and 40s, which eventually led to George Schwartz being renamed George Soros by his father after the fear of anti-Semitic groups began to creep into the lives of the Hungarian Jewish community. During the Hungarian occupation by Nazi German forces more than 500,000 Hungarian followers of Judaism were murdered in the Holocaust, a fate avoided by the Soros family because of the name change and the forged papers obtained by the family to protect their true identity. The militarization of the U.S. is something George Soros has been fighting throughout the 21st century as he was a vocal critic of President George W. Bush and his Administration in the move towards embarking on the Second Iraq War and the deep distrust many maintained over the reasons for this conflict taking place. End Citizens United PAC Showing Surprising Support Among Thousand of Voters

A group that is trying to get money out of U.S. politics is successfully raising millions of dollars for a political action committee that wants to get money out of politics.

The End Citizens United PAC was formed in March of 2015 and quickly began to attract tens of thousands of donors who contribute very small amounts of cash. To date, the average donation is just $12 per person. At this rate, however, End Citizens United is projecting to bring in a record $35 million in 2017 alone. It raised $25 million in 2016.

The goal of End Citizens United is the same as its name – to overturn and get rid of a 2010 Supreme Court Decision which allowed the formation of something called Super PACs – entities that can raise unlimited amounts of cash from wealthy people and large corporations, and use that cash to support political candidates.

The result of the Citizens United Supreme Court Decision has resulted in the “buying and selling” of political offices in the United States, critics say. It means that only the wealthiest individuals and corporations have true political power now because they can “buy” any candidate they want.

This leaves the average voter – especially poor and middle class citizens – with little or no say in who will represent them in Washington.

Dumping the 2010 Supreme Court ruling was a major feature of the insurgent campaign of Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders in the 2016 election cycle. Candidate Hillary Clinton also supporting getting rid of Citizens United, although critics say she benefited greatly from using it to raise millions for her own campaign. Most Republican candidates favor keeping the Supreme Court ruling as it is.

Whatever the case, the strong performance of End Citizen United heading into the 2018 midterm elections is getting a lot of attention among political observers. If the group meets its projected $35 million haul, the money will be spent heavily to support mostly Democratic candidates for House and Senate seats. Large troves of cash will also certainly be spent on negative attack ads against Republican candidates.

The End Citizens United PAC has attracted 100,000 donors so far in 2017 – and 40,000 of those gave for the first time, indicating powerful momentum for the movement.

It remains to be seen how large of a role End Citizens United PAC money will play in the midterm elections, but a primary goal is to flip the House of Representatives from Republican to Democratic control.

If that happens, End Citizens United will have made a gigantic step forward toward achieving its ultimate goal of getting big money out of politics.
